Are your talents rusty? Preacher: Christine Beer, on 28/02/2021, duration: 0:20 Christine shares from the parable of the talents. Rather than simply comparing the different servants and how they invested the talents the master entrusted to them, Christine encourages us to think about the effects on things that we bury. Over time these things become spoilt and if left too long may even become useless. Do we have talents and gifts that God has entrusted to us that we have buried out of a sense of fear? |

The Persecuted Church Bad News, Good News Preacher: Rod Whiting, on 21/02/2021, duration: 0:21 Rod Whiting shares from Matthew 10 where Jesus explains that those who follow him will experience persecution. We only have to read the leaflets from Open Doors to realise how true this is. However, the good news is that where there is persecution, there is also growth. The apostle Paul was able to testify that because of his own persecution, many of his own followers grew strong in their faith. |

Loving Like Jesus Preacher: Nicky Summerhill, on 14/02/2021, duration: 0:17 Today Nicky shares part 2 of her series looking at the life of Jesus from the gospel of John. Nicky explains how uncomplicated it is to love like Jesus, although we tend to make it more complicated than it actually is. Jesus loved the way he did because he knew he himself was loved and was able to extend his Father's love to those around him. He also demonstrated his love in extraordinary ways, often mixing with those others rejected. Finally, his love often got him into trouble. |

An Overview of the Gospel of John Preacher: Dave Summerhill, on 07/02/2021, duration: 0:19 During this time of reading through the gospels, rather than looking at a specific story or event of Jesus' life, Dave chooses instead to reflect on the whole gospel of John. In particular, where the synoptic gospels focus more on what Jesus did, e.g. his miracles, John's gospel focuses more on who Jesus is, the Son of God, and why these miracles and his teaching are important to us today. |

Jesus is of course the main character of all four gospels so it is vital to have a good understanding of who Jesus is. He is God, he is the light and life of the world and he came so that we might all be reconciled to God. Richard includes at the end of his word a recording of Dr. Lockridge's famous sermon "That's my King". |

This story seems to break up the natural flow of the Joseph story, but actually it is a really important part of the whole picture. God isn't just working in Joseph's life, or the lives of Jacob and his sons. He has a much bigger plan in mind which is to create the line of Jesus for the salvation of the world. Judah is an incredible example of how through repentance, the mess can be turned into THE message. |

It seems like Joseph takes one step forward but two steps back. In truth, God is positioning him for his biggest moment yet. |

Was the outcome of this journey going to be good or bad? |

In this first session we learn about how clumsy Joseph is as he shares about the dreams he has been having, and as a result gets himself into a lot of trouble. We all make mistakes when we are learning but because relationships within the family were so bad, the brothers show no grace or patience, apart from Jacob who holds his matter in his heart. Good relationships with one another are key for creating a healthy environment for gifts to grow. |

This time we explore the story of the Rich Young Ruler. Again, everything with this young man seemed all good, apart from one thing, his riches – that was his 'but'. Interestingly even though the young ruler obeyed all of the commandments, he felt he needed to ask Jesus what else he lacked. Why did he ask this? It is because by the Holy Spirit he was feeling what God was feeling about his 'but', i.e. the riches in his life had taken priority over following Jesus. Even so, Jesus had genuine love for him. Preacher: Richard Brown, on 05/07/2015, duration: 0:29 Today Pastor Richard continues with the second part of the Parable of the Sower, this time looking at the thorny soil and the good soil. How sad it is when we are so full of potential in God yet we don’t realize that potential because the things of the world crowd God’s Word out of our lives. The Purpose of God's Law - Part 2 The Nature of Sin Preacher: John Maskell, on 16/03/2014, duration: 0:46 John continues from where he left off last week looking at 1 Timothy 1:5-11 and looks carefully at what Paul has to say about sin. Even though Paul lists several kinds of sinful acts, he does not try to classify them into more serious or less serious sins – basically anything that is contrary to God’s word is sin. Drawing also from scriptures in Romans 7, we see that the sinful behaviours are actually the fruit of the sinful nature that resides within us all. Paul pleads by saying “Who will free me from this from this life dominated by sin? Thank God, the answer is Jesus Christ". |

John explains how the Law was only able to point out the wrong in people’s lives but was not able to deal with the root cause which is sin. He explained how the Pharisees had over time corrupted the Law by adding all kinds of extra rules and regulations which were not from God. So when Paul comes along and teaches salvation by grace, this creates a real problem for the Jews of the early church. |

There are many side effects to sin. When God sows the seed, he does it in what seems an indiscriminate way. He doesn't reveal himself at every catastrophe. To whom would we go? The message of Jesus can be offensive Preacher: John Maskell, on 12/01/2014, duration: 0:44 Sometimes the teachings of Jesus are hard to accept. In John 6 Jesus taught his followers about 'eating his flesh'. Whist this was a figure of speech, it offended many of his followers who subsequently left him. Sometimes, we don't like the demands that God places on our lives; we don't like to requirements of righteousness. What are we to do? Are we too going to walk away from God? Peter certainly was not going to abandon Jesus, after all, to whom would he go? |
